Splitting for Room

Project type

Photos

Date

September 2023

Location

Bloobees 1 in Salisbury

Only so much room before the girls hive to bee buzzing to find a new condo for their queen. Functioning as a superorganism, the hives natural instinct is to split when space starts running out to make room for growth.
Here I show the set up to doing a split, the results once the queen is accepted, and then adding another set of 5 frames to their NUC. These will give them room for fresh fall/winter brood, some pollen and honey resources. It's a simple add but the girls surely appreciate it.
This is all how to add hives/colonies to your yards while safely, effectively, and efficiently helping your girls survive their natural instincts to grow.
